Streator was settled in the mid-19th century and grew rapidly with the coal and glass industries of the late 1800s. Its historic cemeteries — including Riverview — hold generations of the families who built the town: miners, glassworkers, merchants, civic leaders, and veterans of every American war since the Civil War.

For founding details, notable interments, and tour information, the Streatorland Historical Society is the definitive local resource — they maintain a published cemetery tour booklet and archival records.
